About HData
At HData, we’re a team of dedicated technologists, building automation, AI, and data solutions to make regulated energy work easier.
Technology can (and should) make life easier.
Everyone agrees: regulatory data is incredibly complex and difficult to work with. Reading pages of testimony, only to discover it’s not relevant. Rebuilding a report from scratch because the author is no longer on the team. Spending hours looking through a filing for one mistake.
At HData, we’ve come together to change this. We’re excited to build technology that streamlines and simplifies regulatory into work that’s intuitive and productive.
AI is the great force multiplier of our time.
AI is turning industries upside down, and regulatory work is ripe for this exact type of disruption. HData’s Regulatory AI is built to empower analysts to spend more time analyzing and less time copying and pasting. It’s ready to help make sure everyone walks into a rate case proceeding fully prepared with intel on what every intervenor has said in testimony. And it’s already making custom, relevant peer groups easy to build, and ready for detailed analysis. HData’s platform was built with these exact use cases (and many more!) in mind.
Our Story
HData was founded in 2018 by Hudson Hollister, who had previously worked to transform many government regulatory regimes from disconnected documents into open and standardized data. He founded the Data Coalition and the Data Foundation, the nation’s leading open data industry organizations and drafted the DATA Act of 2014 and the GREAT Act of 2019. In 2015, Hudson’s advocacy team began working with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to transform energy regulatory reporting into standardized data, using the XBRL data format.
HData entered the energy regulatory data market in 2020. The team sought to combine compliance and business intelligence solutions on a single platform, allowing energy accountants, business leaders, and regulatory professionals to easily manage and understand the information that energy companies report to regulators. Co-Founder Yuval Lubowich created a development team with decades of experience in building simple, intuitive, and flexible applications on standardized data.
In 2021, HData was selected to participate in the Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator, the world’s only technology accelerator for early-stage companies focused on the utilities sector.
HData closed an oversubscribed $3.1 million seed investment round, led by Hyde Park Venture Partners and co-led by Firebrand Ventures in December 2021. That same month, HData announced a new partnership with Alabama Power Company to develop HData Insights, the next generation of energy regulatory business intelligence.
In 2024, HData closed a $10 million Series A investment round led by Buoyant Ventures. Today, we serve over 40 organizations in regulated energy, including utilities, state and federal regulators, professional services, research and policy, grid services, and advocacy.
